With this cycle route you can spend a day in the beautiful Horsterwold. With its 4200 hectares, this young nature reserve is the largest contiguous deciduous forest in Western Europe.
Fertile sea clay
In the Horsterwold you drive under the canopy of chestnut trees, oaks, poplars and cherry trees. Although the forest is relatively young, the trees look ancient. The secret of their rapid growth lies under your wheels: the sea clay. The bottom of the former Zuiderzee turned out to be particularly fertile. The Stille Kern in the middle of the Horsterwold is a real gem. This swampy primeval forest is freely accessible for the adventurous nature lover, so put your bike aside and put on your boots.
Vistas
At the eastern edge of the forest you look out over the rippling water of the Nuldernauw and the Gelderse Vallei. A little later you drive a few kilometers along the Hoge Vaart, the canal that crosses the entire Flevopolder. Here you have beautiful views of the polders behind the Green Wall, as the Horsterwold is also called.
