Description

You cycle along the green edge of Heerlen to the Brunssummerheide. This heathland was created by people. You wouldn't know it, but the area around the visitor center was built on a former garbage dump. A herd of Schoonbeeker sheep lives in the hilly area. You cycle back along the banks of the Cranenweyer, a reservoir in the Anstelvallei (also called Anstelerbeekdal) in Kerkrade. The Anstelerbeek runs through a valley with steep slopes, where Roman villas used to be located. You will now find a varied slope forest. There are also two water mills (Hammolen and Brugmolen), GaiaZOO, Erenstein Castle, the Nieuw Erenstein castle farm and the Klarenanstel farm. An interesting area! A beautiful walking area has been created around the reservoir.
