Tour of Heldense Bossen

Your route takes you through Dubbroek, a nature reserve in an old Meuse bed. Here you see ash, pedunculate oak and black alder. Then you cycle into the Boekenderbos, a 234 hectare nature reserve with forests, agricultural areas and grasslands along the Maas. This forest turns into the Heldense Bossen. These forests consist mainly of coniferous forests that were planted to control the drifting sand dunes in this area. The Gruise Epper nature reserve is also beautiful to drive through. You cycle back through Kwakvors, a nature reserve of wet grasslands and bird-rich ponds. Here you can drive wonderfully quietly under the trees along the Helenavaart: a canal where peat was once transported. Now it is part of nature. Stop off at Restaurant de Boswachter along the way!
