Tour of Jongema State and Sneek

Your cycling route starts with a cup of coffee at the cozy Stadsherberg Het Wapen van IJlst. From here you can quickly cycle to Sneek with its historic city center. Sneek was the capital of Friesland from 1498 to 1500 and was the first in Friesland to be completely walled. The Waterpoort is a beautiful monument here. On the other side of Sneek you will come across the Jongema State. Only the gatehouse from 1603 remains of this fifteenth-century country house or stins. Instead of a new complex, a park with a moat was created. Via the Sneekermeer you cycle to IJlst, past Molen De Rat (1828), an octagonal tower mill with a miller's house. It is one of three sawmills in Friesland. The mill was built in the Zaan region in 1683.
