Tour of Jongema State and Sneek

Your cycle route starts with a cup of coffee at the cosy Stadsherberg Het Wapen van IJlst. From here you quickly cycle to Sneek with its historic city centre. Sneek was the capital of Friesland from 1498 to 1500 and was the first in Friesland to be completely walled. The Waterpoort is a beautiful monument here. On the other side of Sneek you come across the Jongema State. Of this fifteenth-century country house or stins, only the gatehouse from 1603 remains. Instead of a new complex, a park with a moat was created. Via the Sneekermeer you cycle to IJlst, past Molen De Rat (1828), an octagonal smock mill with a miller's house. It is one of the three sawmills in Friesland. The mill was built in the Zaanstreek in 1683.
