Along Frisian windmills and churches

Wide vistas, windmills and church towers that loom like beacons in the landscape: you can get a breath of fresh air and switch back in Friesland. A wonderful route to get some fresh air again!

Middle Sea
You pass through some beautiful old terp villages, such as Boksum, Deinum and Dronrijp. These three villages were once on the Middelzee, a former estuary that ran through Friesland until the Middle Ages. You pass the Hatsumermolen: an octagonal polder mill from 1878. Further on is the Edensermolen. This beautiful polder mill dates from 1847.

Core
In Hennaard you will find a few houses around the mound. You can visit a special bell chair at the cemetery. This square clock house dates from 1870, the base was built with stones from the church, which was demolished in 1862. The clock dates back to the thirteenth century! You can also see beautiful old churches in Oosterlittens and Weidum. In the protected village view of Mantgum you can see a few rentier houses and associated parks from 1875.
