From Arcen to Grubbenvorst and Velden

This cycling route starts at De Maasparel - Hotel & Restaurant. As early as 1330, Arcen was an important link with the hinterland and the strategically located village on the Maas quickly developed into a fortified town. Venlo faced fierce competition and relations deteriorated when Venlo residents rused Arcen to the ground in 1586. The most famous is the striking castle of Arcen, with its beautiful castle gardens. There is a breathtaking Rosarium with 12,000 roses. Also not to be missed is the Wijmarse Mill. This beautiful upper and lower water mill dating from 677 milled grain and was significantly renovated in 1881. The mill was restored in 1990 and has since housed a grain roasting facility again, which bears the name De IJsvogel.
