Description

Your cycling route starts at Paviljoen de Duinrand. You drive along the Brielse Meer to the nice Maassluis. In the nineteenth century, Maassluis became world famous for a towage company. The Gemeentemuseum gives you a good idea of the interesting history of the harbor town. You will also pass the De Hoop corn mill, a round tower mill from 1792. Historic Brielle is a place where cultural history is kept alive, because the city has still well preserved the old defenses. The old city walls, nine bastions, five ravelins, an eighteenth-century gatekeeper's house and a furnished harbor battery with a bombproof guardhouse and many bunkers have been preserved. Worthwhile to taste the atmosphere! On the way back you will discover the mill of Oostvoorne. This groundsailer was built in 1821 and was used as a flour mill.
