From Horpmaal to Brustem and Heers

Heers is a town in the beautiful province of Limburg in Belgium. The village is best known for its thirteenth-century castle. Heers and the castle were destroyed by the troops of Charles the Bold in 1467. A farm from Heers was transferred to Bokrijk and rebuilt there as an entrance to the open-air museum. The route is characterized by the presence of two beautiful castles. The village in which Rijkel Castle is located is not large and the town is mainly known in the area for its castle. The building emerged from the core of a 16th-century mansion, which is now included in the east wing. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the building was expanded into a U-shaped water castle, built in the Brabant brick and sand-lime brick style. The last stop before arriving back at the starting point of your tour is Chateau De La Motte. This centuries-old and romantic accommodation offers numerous options for good food and drinks. There is a café and a brasserie where you can have a delicious lunch. The dishes are reasonably priced and will taste good if you have already completed a few kilometers of cycling. The romantic terrace is located on the beautiful moat. Don't forget to taste the famous Motte beer here, which is the castle's own beer brand.
