In 1918, the Zuiderzee Act was passed, with which plan"Lely\\\" could start: the construction and reclamation of the Zuiderzee and the IJsselmeer polders. In the 1940s, the Noordoostpolder was built as part of that plan, because the need for agricultural land was great. In the spring, a new sea is created in the Noordoostpolder: a sea of color on the fields. The color combination of many flowers that bloom there is breathtakingly beautiful, but the Noordoostpolder has even more hidden gems. Woods were planted where the peat soil was too poor to work properly. No less than 150 kilometers of trenches were dug by hand to drain soil and plant hundreds of thousands of saplings.
