Tour of Gaasterland and Hindeloopen from Workum

 This route takes you through the Gaasterland, a rolling and wooded region in the southwest corner of Friesland. The hills consist of boulder clay ridges that were pushed up during the Ice Age. The highest of these hills is located near the village of Oudemirdum and rises almost thirteen meters above sea level. Near this point is Air Watchtower 6H3, a concrete observation tower from 1953. It is one of almost 140 examples that were built during the Cold War to detect enemy aircraft flying below the range of radar. From the tower you have a beautiful view over the Frisian land and water. Along the way you can also get off in nice places such as Hindeloopen.
