Tour of the Kempen nature near Reusel

This route takes you to the Brabantse Kempen between Turnhout and Reusel, an agricultural, forest and stream-rich landscape on the border. During the first kilometers you loosen your legs along the towpath of the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten canal, one of the seven Kempen canals between the Maas and Scheldt. This 38 kilometer long waterway was completed in 1875 after 31 years of digging. You cross the border at the Reuselse Moeren nature reserve. In this largely excavated raised bog area you drive through moist heathland and dry coniferous forest. Here and there a birch grove has spontaneously arisen. You will see a striking number of gale shrubs here.
