Description
This beautiful route introduces you to another side of Friesland: the Gaasterland, a rolling and wooded area. You will also enjoy the characteristically vast Frisian lake area.
Fortified town of Sloten
A little further on you can enjoy the historic atmosphere in the old center of Balk. The poet Herman Gorter also had a good time here: his poem Mei is an ode to Balk. You will also pass through Sloten, which exudes a wonderful historic atmosphere with its 50 national monuments. Almost everything from the original ramparts and structure is still there, wow!
Frisian Forests
In Nijemirdum you will see a solitary church tower from the fourteenth century. Further on you enter the rolling Gaasterland. You drive through Elfbergen, the Lycklama forest and the Starnuman forests: three beautiful contiguous forests. How wonderfully quiet it is here!
