Description

This route takes you through several nature reserves that are part of Grenspark Kempen-Broek. You drive through the forests west of Weert and through Belgium.

Trouser mill
The route starts at the edge of the Belgian village of Lozen. In no time you cycle through the small-scale landscape of the Sint-Maartensheide nature reserve. Here you see a mosaic of forest, patches of heath, meadows and fields. This area is sparsely populated, so it is wonderful to make miles on the car-free roads. You pass the Broekmolen from 1738, an undershot water mill that stands on the Aabeek. In Stramproy you pass De Nijverheid, a corn mill from 1903.

Weertbergen
The Wijffelterbroek was once part of a large border swamp. A perfect area for smugglers, now you can enjoy beautiful views on a winding path. The Laurabossen is a former logging forest. Between the many conifers you experience a wonderfully refreshing silence. Just past the nature reserve De IJzeren Man you can have a drink at De Sluis Weert. Through the Weerterbergen you cycle to the Janzona, a corn mill from 1937.
