The beautiful surroundings of Venray

This route takes you through the beautiful center of Venray, a charming town in Limburg. You will also drive through several beautiful nature reserves, such as the Geijsteren Estate and the Overloon Dunes.

Geijsteren Estate Just before Venray, you drive through the Odapark, a rolling wooded area where old trees and stately avenues can be seen. On the Market Square in Venray, you can see, among other things, the beautiful Old Town Hall from 1885. The St. Peter's Chains Church originally dates from 1450 but has been restored several times. In Oostrum, you also see a fine fifteenth-century church. Further on, you pass through the quiet woods of the old Geijsteren Estate.

Pilgrimage Site Smakt In Smakt, you pass the St. Joseph Chapel from 1699. This chapel was built because churchgoers found the distance to the parish church in Venray too far for early morning mass. A little later, you drive into the Overloon Dunes. A wonderfully peaceful nature reserve where shifting dunes, juniper thickets, heathland, and coniferous forests alternate. At L117, you hear the impressive story of the Battle of Overloon, which took place here in late 1944.
