Description
This route takes you through the Dijleland and the Hageland, two idyllic regions near Leuven. You ride through a rolling landscape that is dotted with fields, meadows, sunken roads and forests. From the higher parts you can enjoy endless views.
Explore the Meerdaal Forest
The starting point of this route is in Oud-Heverlee. Other charming villages that you will visit during this trip are Huldenberg and Bierbeek. Take some time here to sit down on a terrace. You will then cycle through the Meerdaalwoud, which together with the Heverleebos and Egenhovenbos forms the largest mixed deciduous forest in Flanders. Nowhere else in Flanders will you see so many old oaks with a circumference of more than 250 centimetres. You will also find dry heathlands, hornbeams, bracken, alders and ash trees here.
Water wheel mill
At the village of Terlanen you pass an old water wheel mill from 1429. This mill was destroyed at the end of the 16th century and rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century. In 1774 and 1893 the mill was restored.
