Kevin De Bruyne started playing football in his native region for the modest KVV Drongen, near Ghent, at the age of six. From the moment Kevin was included in the Red Devils selection in 2010, he has stolen the hearts of many football fans. Today he is even the crowd favorite of the Belgians. Today, this sympathetic Red Devil awaits the assignment to shine against the USA team under the watchful eye of the entire Belgian nation. To get to know Kevin a little better, we are going to start a beautiful cycling route in his hometown of Drongen. This village has a rich history and owes its existence to the striking abbey, whose history dates back to the 7th century. From Drongen we cycle out of the village center, towards Ghent. We continue the route along the canal and a beautiful winding waterway, until we end up in Drongen again. We cross the village and continue towards the countryside where we encounter"Schouwbroek\\\", a beautiful fortified building from the Middle Ages. In the past, this fortification was often inhabited by the noble families of Belgium. We continue the route inland and descend to the center of Drongen, where we visit the Old Abbey of Drongen. The abbey complex, located on the Leie in Drongen, has been protected as a monument since 1998. The abbey currently houses a reflection center, a community of (elderly) Jesuits and several families. The octagonal abbey church from 1734, built in white stone, with its small dome, serves as a parish church.
