Cycling to the sea in Duin Horst Weide - route 2b

The Netherlands

Cycle through the Duivenvoorde corridor and experience how beautiful the Netherlands can be between the busy cities. You cross the green zone between Voorschoten, Leidschendam and Wassenaar, which connects the Groene Hart and the forests and dunes along the coast near Wassenaar. Here nature is restored to its former glory. Duivenvoorde Castle is located at the heart of this ecological main structure. The complex was mentioned as early as 1226 and it is special that this castle has never been sold in all those centuries. The castle was always passed on to other families and was even inhabited by the same family during the first five centuries. The green Raaphorstpolder is also a surprisingly green area, and together the Ter Horst estate and Eikenhorst estate form the Royal De Horsten Estate. Cycling under the canopy of beeches, elms, maples, oaks, Italian poplars, willows, pines and poplars is a great experience. An artfully constructed water feature, ditches and winding paths throughout the estate alternate with the meadows of the Raaphorstpolder and have a clear purpose: to amaze recreational cyclists with the beautiful artifices in the landscape.
