Cycling to the sea in Duin Horst Weide - route 2a

The green Raaphorstpolder is a surprising area, laid out in a landscape style that connects to the Raaphorst country estate. It is part of an extensive estate consisting of the Raaphorstpolder, Ter Horst estate and Eikenhorst estate. Together these three are called the Koninklijke Landgoed de Horsten. Cycling under the canopy of beech, elm, maple, oak, Italian poplar, willow, pine and abel is the ultimate enjoyment. But you never forget that you are cycling through a park-like landscape; man clearly expressed his dominance over nature here. An artfully landscaped water feature, ditches and meandering footpaths all over the estate alternate with the meadows of the Raaphorstpolder. In the eastern part you can still clearly see the historical allotment structure of the meadows, but all human intervention in this area has clearly had only one purpose: to please the eye.
