Along the coast of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen

From the lovely Oostburg you drive straight through the poldes to Retranchement with its centuries-old fortresses. Nearby you can visit the Zwin Visitor Center where you can learn more about the beautiful nature reserve that used to be a mighty estuary. Now it is frequently visited by birds. You drive all the way along the coast, often beautifully above the dunes, such as at Cadzand-Bad. Have lunch at Strandpaviljoen Puur, near the cozy town of Groede. Then you drive to the sturdy black and white lighthouse of Breskens, which looms in front of you like a beacon. A little further on you will discover Breskens itself, which emerged as a farming community at the end of the ninth century. The Fisheries Museum and the lighthouse are nice places to visit. There are always many fishing boats in the harbor!
