Description
Saxon farms around the village green, fields on rounded ash trees, higher fields and hay fields and meadows in the lower stream valley, you will find it all in the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. The old typical Drenthe landscape has been well preserved here.
The winding Drentsche Aa
The Drentsche Aa winds its way through the landscape here. Farmers have held sway here for thousands of years and the landscape still looks almost the same as it did centuries ago. The stream has shaped the landscape and the esdorp landscape was built around it. While cycling you can enjoy a characteristic combination of unspoilt nature and agricultural activities on the land. Open and closed pieces are alternated rapidly here. You can also take a break along the way at Restaurant van Tarel for a snack and a drink.

In the landscape you will find numerous centuries-old dolmens and burial mounds from antiquity. On this route you can take a look at Hunebed D09, Hunebed D08, a burial mound and Hunebed D02. Some of these monuments require some imagination to see what they once represented, but other dolmens have remained well intact.
