The route starts at Princenhof, Hotel & Restaurant, a cozy place where you can stay and eat, in the middle of De Alde Feanen National Park. It is wonderfully quiet in this peat bog. This is probably because everyone is so impressed by this beautiful area with the large open water ponds. Just before Grou you pass the Mineralogical Museum, which is located in the large barn of an old farm. It is also wonderfully peaceful to travel for miles in the Frisian polder. You pass through villages with old churches and other special buildings. This is how you pass It Damshûs in Nij Beets open-air museum. Here you will learn more about the peat cutters in this region between 1860 and 1920. Just outside the village you drive through the Reigerbos, an old deciduous forest.
