The Belgian Ardennes is a region that equals silence, vast forests and Burgundian life. These two worlds are united on this route.
Falls of Coo
Of course, this bike tour offers you plenty of nature. You drive through the vast Hertogenwoud, the largest forest in Belgium. You also occasionally cycle past meadows and fields, where you have beautiful views of the landscape. Take a moment to look around here. You will also pass through the green valley of the river Amblève, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Ardennes. The waterfalls of Coo are an attraction in themselves, so be sure to pay a visit to this beautiful spot.
Spa, city of spas
Spa is a monumental city in the true sense of the word. That the name of the town has become a worldwide known term for spas says enough. In Spa you see many castles, country houses and other nice places, because wellness used to be reserved for the rich of the earth. One of the authentic villages on your route is Sart lez Spa. The houses are built from Ardennes stone. You will also find old-fashioned shops and real bistros here.
Gileppe dam
You will also cycle along Lake Gileppe. This reservoir is fed by the river Gileppe, which originates in the High Fens. The dam from 1878 is one of the oldest concrete dams in Europe. There is a thirteen meter high statue of a lion that proudly looks out towards the border of what was then Prussia, five kilometers away. No fear of heights? Then a spectacular panorama awaits you at the top of the 77-meter-high watchtower at the dam. You don't have to climb the tower, an elevator will take you up.
