Description

Your cycling route starts at Hofstede Villetta. After a rural crossing you end up at the Oosterschelde. Because it was a river arm for a long time, it was an area with both fresh and salt water for a long time. The Delta Works salted the Oosterschelde, which produced unique flora and fauna. You cycle straight through the nice village of Haamstede with the castle of the same name. Haamstede Castle, a national monument from the thirteenth century, was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1525, after which the castle was rebuilt in the sixteenth century. You cycle back via the pleasant Renesse, along the Grevelingenmeer where there are always many boats to see. Holiday feeling at its best! This was once an arm of the North Sea, but now the Grevelingen is the largest saltwater lake in Western Europe.
