From village to village across the German border

This route takes you across the border with our eastern neighbors. You cycle from village to village and cross open fields and areas of forest. Along the way you will pass beautiful country houses. In Sint Odiliënberg you can admire the Romanesque basilica with two towers. The basilica dates back to the 11th century. You will also find the Chapel of Our Lady and the Hoosden House, a stately mansion with surrounding estate. The house was only created in the eighteenth century from a farm that already stood there in the 16th century. The house is beautifully situated in the terraced landscape created by the Roer and is located on a farm surrounded by a deciduous forest. The estate is intersected by avenues and you will find unique vegetation. The house was once owned by the Jesuits and is now privately occupied. The Verbeek mill was built in 1883. He then replaced his predecessor, who had burned down. The mill operated as a flour mill until the early 1950s, but is no longer in operation. It can be viewed on certain days. Freymersen Castle is inhabited. The neo-Gothic house is located in the Rur Valley and was built in 1865. A round brick tower remains of the medieval castle that previously stood on this site. The tower is on an elevation and consists of a basement and two floors. The elevation was intended to protect the house against the high water levels of the Roer. The Freymersen country estate is surrounded by a large nineteenth-century landscape park.
