Description

From Hoevelaken you set course for Amersfoort. On the outskirts of the city you cycle through Bloeidaal, a small-scale nature reserve. Further on you pass the Monnikendam, one of the medieval city gates of Amersfoort. On the Utrechtse Heuvelrug it is wonderful to cycle through old forests and along heaths. You will pass Den Treek, an originally medieval estate with a beautiful nineteenth-century farm and gamekeeper's house. Just past Soesterberg you can visit the National Military Museum. Then you drive through a completely different landscape: the wide Gelderse Vallei. Around junction 76 you cycle through the fourteenth-century Arkemheenpolder, one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. You can eat a delicious meal at Pannenkoekenboerderij De Wildenburg, after which you drive back to the starting point via the cozy and beautiful Nijkerk.
