Description

A visit to Cannenburch Castle or De Cannenburgh starts with a visit to the castle's building. You take a look at the nineteenth-century house of the steward and get an impression of life on the castle farm. The stately 16th century castle itself was built on the remains of an even older castle from the 14th century. It is located in a beautiful old park forest with meadows and ponds. The riverbank, a rare fish that occurs in streams with clear water, lives in the waterways, which are fed by pure seepage water. You will find special plants there and on the banks of the streams the blue of the kingfisher shines. De Hoop flour mill dates from 1894. The mill was built to replace a standard mill that had burned down. The belt mill has been restored and is ready for grinding. Kroondomein Het Loo is located in the middle of the Veluwe. In addition to Het Loo Palace, you will also find the palace garden, the palace park and the extensive forests of the Royal Houtvesterij: a vast forest and heathland area between Apeldoorn, Vaassen and Uddel. It was formerly used for hunting and forestry and is traditionally known for its game. In the peace and quiet of the natural beauty you can encounter all kinds of animals, such as red deer, roe deer or wild boar.In the evening, foxes and badgers crawl out of their hiding places. During the restoration, the gardens of Paleis Het Loo were returned to their original situation in the 17th century: they are sleek and symmetrical. You will find many garden statues there and from April to October you can enjoy the spouting fountains. The King's Leap at 13 meters was the highest spouting fountain in Europe at the time. You cycle past the Loo National Museum Palace. This stately, former Royal Palace has been open to the public since 1984. The rooms are furnished with the 17th century apartments of the first residents as a starting point. Het Loo's impressive collection contains approximately 160,000 objects and Het Loo manages part of the National Plant Collection. Step off the pedals, stretch your legs and take the time to soak up this special environment. You cycle past the Wenumsemolen watermill. As early as 1313, mention is made of a mill on this site. The mill has been a copper mill, corn mill, tannery and cheese factory and now grinds grain for animal feed on a voluntary basis. The mill also provides a picturesque backdrop for weddings and parties. The Wenum flour mill was the third mill to be built on this site in a short period of time: its two predecessors burned down. The current mill originally served as a polder mill in Baambrugge from 1840. The mill has been restored and is in working order, but is out of use.
