In the area around Valkenswaard you will find beautiful nature reserves, both in the Netherlands and across the Belgian border. Get on your bike and set out through the woods, past heathlands and past fens. Enjoy your pedals!
Cycling to the abbey
From here you cycle via Aalst, Waalre and Dommelen along Valkenswaard. In Venbergen you can take a look at the Venbergse Watermolen after cycling for more than 15 kilometers. It is unclear exactly when this mill was built, but the mill has a long history anyway. The next sight on the route can be found just across the Belgian border: St. Benedict's Abbey - De Achelse Kluis. Here you will find an abbey shop where you can buy various things such as abbey beer and abbey cheese. A nice and tasty souvenir of your trip.

You then cycle successively through the Leenderbos, Valkenhorst and the Groote Heide back to the point where you started your tour.

The fens in the nature reserves you cycle through provide a special variety of flora and fauna. Here you will find plants such as round sundew, bell gentian, tormentil and devil's thread among cap and shrub heather. On the fens you see vegetation in the form of water lobelia and floating hedgehog's head.
