Avifauna - to the Rottemeren

This cycle route goes to the South of the Green Heart. Via Hazerswoude-Dorp you cycle via Moerkapelle to Zevenhuizen. Not through the peat meadow area, as is often the case in the Groene Hart, but along fields and farms. This is a cycling route with (often) a lot of wind. It is therefore recommended to drive it with a southwesterly wind, so that it is easier to'blow' on the way back to Avifauna. A first nice stopover is at Jeu de Boer in Hazerswoude-Dorp (junction 5, also a Tourist Transfer Point). This recreation farm is located near two nature reserves, the Spookverlaat and the Rietveld. There is a shop with regional products and you can enjoy a cup of coffee, drink or ice cream on the rural terrace. Various activities are organized such as farmer's golf. Kersengaard The route continues towards Moerkapelle. Kersenkwekerij Jomajole is located on the Middelweg (between nodes 7 and 6). I feasted on delicious cherries here and received a nice tour from the owner. It is an indoor orchard, so fruit hangs very early on the trees and is of exceptional quality. Cherries are already available from the beginning of May and from mid-June they also sell apricots, plums and other delicious fruits. It's a nice place to take a rest and have a drink. You continue your way in the direction of Zevenhuizen and cycle a short distance along the Rottemeren. In the Koornmolengat (at Cafe de Roerdomp) you might spot the bittern and the little bittern (an almost extinct species of heron). Bird species such as the reed warbler, the reed warbler and the wood reed warbler can be found in the reeds. If necessary, you can extend your route from Cafe de Roerdomp towards junction 93 (Zevenhuizerzoom). A beautiful green strip along the banks of the Rotte with often beautiful views over the river. With the ferry you can sail from the Zevenhuizerzoom to Bleiswijk.
