Avifauna - to the Rottemeren

This cycle route goes to the south of the Groene Hart. Via Hazerswoude-Dorp you cycle via Moerkapelle to Zevenhuizen. Not through the peat meadow area, as is often the case in the Groene Hart, but along fields and farms. This is a cycle route with (often) a lot of wind. It is therefore recommended to cycle this with a south-westerly wind, so that you can more easily 'blow' to Avifauna on the way back. A first nice stop is at Jeu de Boer in Hazerswoude-Dorp (junction 5, also Tourist Transfer Point). This recreational farm is located near two nature reserves, the Spookverlaat and the Rietveld. There is a shop with regional products and on the rural terrace you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a drink or an ice cream. Various activities are organised, such as farmer's golf. Cherry orchard The route continues towards Moerkapelle. On the Middelweg (between junctions 7 and 6) you will find the Jomajole cherry farm. I enjoyed some delicious cherries here and was given a nice tour by the owner. It is an indoor orchard, so the fruit is already hanging on the trees very early and is of exceptional quality. Cherries are available from the beginning of May and from mid-June they also sell apricots, plums and other delicious fruit. It is a nice place to rest for a while and have a drink. You continue your way towards Zevenhuizen and cycle a short distance along the Rottemeren. In the Koornmolengat (near Cafe de Roerdomp) you might spot the bittern and the wood monkey (a nearly extinct species of heron). In the reeds you can find bird species such as the reed warbler, the sedge warbler and the marsh warbler. You can also extend your route from Cafe de Roerdomp towards junction 93 (Zevenhuizerzoom). A beautiful green strip along the banks of the Rotte with often beautiful views over the river. You can take the ferry from Zevenhuizerzoom to Bleiswijk.
