Zwolle, Hasselt and Genemuiden

Your route starts at Mercure Zwolle. In the Middle Ages, the Hanseatic city of Zwolle arose along the Aa, on a higher cover sand ridge in a swampy area. First you follow the Zwarte Water out of the city, this river flows from Zwolle to the Zwarte Meer near the Noordoostpolder. The name Zwarte Water comes from 'zwet', which means 'border'. This river connected the Zwolle with the sea and the other Hanseatic cities. Then you turn to discover the Overijsselse Vecht. You pass the Agnietenberg and the Haersterveer. A little further on you will see the manor house Huize Den Doorn. The house dates from the 17th century. At the end of the 19th century, the building took its current shape with the large hipped roof. Genemuiden has traditionally been dependent on rush cultivation, which was mainly used to make chair seats.
