Description
The Kromme Rijnstreek is a beautiful cycling area at the foot of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Here you will see vast meadows, ditches, fruit orchards and old country houses. First you drive through the picturesque Werkhoven. Further on you will pass the Leeuwenburgh country house, which dates from 1657. Castle Hinderstein was probably built at the beginning of 1300. Sandenburg Castle originally dates from the fourteenth century. The Darthuizen estate is located near the woods of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The large-scale park was designed by Leonard Springer. You have beautiful views on the Lower Rhine. You can also see a tower here, the only remnant of the thirteenth-century Natewisch Castle. Just past Wijk bij Duurstede you can make a pit stop at Family restaurant De Jonge Graaf, after which you cycle back to the parking lot via Cothen.
