Field margins route Quadenoord Renkum
The eastern field edge route starts at the visitor center"Renkums Beekdal\\\". In the information center of the visitor center"Renkums Beekdal\\\" you can learn more about the"Renkumse Poort\\\", an ecological connecting zone between the Veluwe and the Rhine. A visit to the information center is very worthwhile.
The marked route leads you through the beautiful -Renkums Beekdal- to the Quadenoord estate.
Landgoed Quadenoord is a 230-hectare nature and cultural area. The estate includes a riding school, nature camping site and a sculpture garden.
The sculpture garden with sculptures from, among others, Zimbabwe is one of the most striking and best-known parts of the Quadenoord estate and a feast for the eyes. You can also admire the progress of the renovation of the old watermill on the estate, the last remaining of the many that used to be in the Beekdal.
After leaving the estate drive in the direction of the core of Wolfheze. Just before you reach the center, turn right towards nursery and garden"De Boschhoeve\\\". The Boschhoeve is surrounded by wide agricultural fields and huge deciduous trees. Behind the old farm is a large, varied farm garden with colorful summer and autumn borders, a shaded lane and an orchard with spring bulbs. The surprise is the decorative, inspiring vegetable garden where special vegetables are combined with flowers, including many (summer) bulbs. Very special are the two Yurt tents that you will find in the middle of the area. The Yurt is a traditional round tent mainly used for habitation by itinerant cattle nomads who live in the cold dry steppe regions of Central Asia.
The rest of the route takes you past the research station"De Sinderhoeve\\\" of Wageningen University. The experimental station is located in an open field and is surrounded by meadows and forests. The total area is eleven hectares. Some of these are sown field margins.
At the end of the Telefoonweg you will pass"Cafeteria Airborne\\\". Here you enter the walking and cycling path and drive past the memorial commemorating the Airborne landings that took place here. Further on, if you have driven through the forest on the left and have passed the Bennekomseweg, you will come across an old burial mound in the forest on the left. The burial mounds are numerous in this part of the Veluwezoom and mostly date from the Stone Age (5300 - 2300 BC) or the Bronze Age (2000 - 800 BC). After you have passed two more field edges, you will arrive at the visitor center"Renkums Beekdal\\\"
We hope you enjoyed the route.
