The defense of the Dutch Waterline is worth a bike ride! Follow part of the Grebbe Line through the Gelderse Vallei along the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. The Grebbe Line was given the status of a national monument in 2011 because it is a "unique sample of defense works". The Grebbe Line was last used in 1939, against the Germans who would later occupy our country. In 1951 the line officially lost its defensive function. What the Grebbe Line never lost, however, was its cultural-historical and natural value. You cross Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park to cycle to the Leusderheide, in the heart of the park. The Leusderheide has two ecoducts: Leusderheide ecoduct, which runs over the A28 in the northwest, and Treekerchange ecoduct, which runs over the N227 in the southeast. These ecoducts were built to allow animals to move between the Leusderheide and surrounding forests. Badgers, lizards and foxes, among others, frequently use the crossings. Take advantage of a stopover at SPOTT food and drinks for a snack and a drink.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
