Your route starts at Restaurant Hollands Venetië. First you get on your bike towards Giethoorn, the main attraction here. Museums, galleries, shops and terraces make this beautiful old town a pleasant stopover! After the hustle and bustle of Giethoorn you cycle into the quiet nature. Vast reed fields and flowery hay fields. Lovely little pools, quiet lakes, mysterious fens, large pools and deep canals. That is what you can expect in the area around Giethoorn. De Wieden and the Weerribben together form one of the most important marsh areas in Europe. Due to peat extraction, this polder area has been extensively excavated in history. This has created vast reed fields and flowery hay fields. In Sint Jansklooster you cycle on to the visitor centre to learn more about this beautiful area!
