Experience the beauty of the Dwingelderveld National Park

Imagine yourself far away from civilization among the rolling heathlands, more than sixty lakes and fens, drifting sands and forests in the largest wet heathland area in Western Europe.

Oldengaerde About 8 kilometers after the start of your route you can have a cup of tea or coffee at The Teaspoon, with its cozy Tea Garden. A little further on you will pass the former manor house Oldengaerde. The first mention of the estate dates from 1420. In 1717 the manor house was extensively renovated with a new facade. The second house was also built around this time. Around the houses is a beautiful garden, which was designed after the garden of Versailles.

Sheepfold The Ruinen sheepfold is located in Benderse, on the edge of the Benderse Heide. Since 1949, the fold has provided shelter to Drenthe heath sheep, a breed recognizable by its multi-coloured wool, long tail and horns. In the morning and evening, you can see more than three hundred sheep ambling to and from the heath. Nearby you will find the Dwingelderveld Visitor Centre, with more information about the Benderse Heide. The last attraction of the bike tour is the Pasmans Huus Museum Farm.
