The Oldebroekse Heide is varied: vast heathlands, meadows and lanes alternate with forests. In addition to beautiful nature, this route also offers the necessary sights for culture lovers, such as paper mills.
House Molecaten
Within five kilometers you will come across the beautiful Molecaten estate, which is adorned by an old water mill and a beautiful mansion. The mill, the first paper mill on the Veluwe, was built around 1646. Huis Molecaten is located on a 150-hectare estate with a number of farms and a catering establishment, in the middle of the woods. The Oldebroekse Heide, which you will cycle past a little later, is kept open thanks to the grazing herd of heath sheep that live in the sheepfold that you will encounter along the way.
Paper mill
The Kopermolen, an overshot watermill that grinds on the Klaarbeek, is also a paper mill. It probably dates from the eighteenth century. Before 1745, the mill was used to grind paper, after which the mill was used as a copper mill, for covering ship hulls and coin blanks.
