Description

The Oldebroekse Heide is varied: extensive heathlands, meadows and avenues alternate with forests. In addition to beautiful nature, this route also offers the necessary sights for culture lovers, such as paper mills.

House Molecates
Within five kilometers you will come across the beautiful Molecaten estate, which is adorned by an old water mill and a beautiful mansion. The mill, the first paper mill on the Veluwe, was built around 1646. House Molecaten is located on a 150-hectare estate with a number of farms and a catering facility, in the middle of the woods. The Oldebroekse Heide, which you cycle past a little later, is kept open thanks to the grazing herd of heath sheep that live in the sheepfold that you encounter along the way.

Paper mill
The Kopermolen, an overshot water mill that grinds on the Klaarbeek, is also a paper mill. It probably dates from the eighteenth century. Before 1745, the mill was used to grind paper, after which it was used as a copper mill for shoeing ship hulls and coin plates.
