Description

Ferns grow at the foot of immense trees, which cast mysterious shadows on fairytale paths. Around the moist deciduous forest of the IJsselvallei you will find a blue grassland with rare plants and animals. Heathlands, ponds and streams keep the landscape exciting and small landscape elements such as free-standing trees, hedges and hedges continue to surprise you. Flowers such as orchids grow in the wetter grasslands, which attract butterflies and birds. As if that weren't enough, you can enjoy the typical Dutch farmland landscape as you make your way from one village to another along the banks of the IJssel, until you end up in Deventer. Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. Deventer has the oldest stone house, the oldest walking park and the Athenaeum library is the oldest scientific library in our country. Deventer was first mentioned as a small settlement in the year 806. In 877, a charter mentions seven farms that together form the Daventre Portu, or the Port of Deventer. Historians regard the allocation of municipal lands by Emperor Henry V in 1123 as the moment when the residents of Deventer received city rights. The city has now become internationally known for its spice cakes, bee cakes and honey cakes of unprecedented high quality. In the hamlet of Diepenveen you will pass Huis Nieuw Rande.'Oud Rande\\\' is already mentioned in documents from 1285 and the tower you see is the only remaining remnant of the old manor. The current, replacement new building"Nieuw Rande\\\" was built around 1850. The building was completely restored at the beginning of the 21st century. About three-quarters of the way through the route, Groot Hoenlo Castle appears. This manor with estate was first mentioned in 1233. Next to Groot Hoenlo is Klein Hoenlo, a house that is also known as the widow's house. The beautiful main building has been rebuilt several times over the centuries. Since 2001, the house and accompanying estate have been a protected national monument. Unfortunately, the site is not publicly accessible.
