Admire the Alde Feanen National Park

This route takes you from Wirdum to the Alde Feanen National Park. Along the way you will also visit some beautiful terp villages where you can enjoy the special Frisian cultural history.

Ald Slot
You will pass the Ald Slot from 1780, also known as Roorda State. The building is designed as a museum, where you can admire period rooms decorated in the atmosphere of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. You will also see two nineteenth-century churches close together in Warga. From Wartena you can cross the Prinses Margriet Canal with a bicycle ferry.

Old peat bogs
In the Alde Feanen you look out over lakes, ditches, reedlands and shrubs. It is wonderfully quiet here. This is probably because everyone is so impressed by this beautiful area. In the middle of the national park you pass through the picturesque village of Eernewoude. In the surroundings of the villages of Idaard, Roordahuizum and Wijtgaard you can fully enjoy the views, churches and old farms. How wonderful it is to cycle in Friesland!
