Ossenisse
From Hengstdijk you drive through the old polder landscape around Ossenisse. These polders date from the Middle Ages, special! There are many fruit orchards, and you will also pass through characteristic hamlets such as Oude Stoof and Zeedorp. Then you cycle along the banks of the Western Scheldt. Get some fresh air!
Big Island
Just above Lamswaarde you pass De Weel: a wheel with a beautiful old tree with a picnic bench. A nice spot for a picnic. On the horizon you see the church tower of St. Cornelius, a church from 1873. Just past Hulst, you look out to the left over the private nature reserve the Groot Eiland, a freshwater swamp surrounded by creeks. Some of these creeks are remnants of the Hellegat, a former estuary that once extended to the port of Hulst.
