Cycling along the North Sea coast

The coastline of the Belgian North Sea is one of the largest tourist regions in our southern neighbours. Several cities cover the coastal strip and are connected to each other. Sandy beaches are a great asset. In some places there are dune areas, but also mudflats and salt marshes. In the dune belt between the French border and Westende-bad you will find the widest dunes along the Flemish coast, but between Westende and Ostend you will see few dune areas. Here the cities have advanced along the Flemish coast, although you can still see dunes inland from time to time. However, these are very scarce, because the bustling cities dominate the coastal strip here. During your bike ride you can make a stop at Open Air Museum Anlantikwall. It is a unique set of bunkers and trenches, which you can walk past and through. The Atlantic Wall was the Germans' defense line on the coast, with defense posts built at strategic points.
