Description
This route takes you through a beautiful wide and rolling hilly landscape. North of Ploegsteert you can enjoy the green contours of the Huttebossen. Clay pits from an old brickworks are hidden in these woods. So keep your eyes open when you cycle here. You will also get to know small villages along the way.
Saint Nicholas Church
When you get close to Mesen, you can see the large domed tower of the Sint-Niklaaskerk towering above the village from afar. So you always know where to go by bike. Under the church is a Romanesque crypt in which the Countess of Flanders is buried. You will also find numerous memorial sites for victims of the First World War in Mesen. The most curious memorial site is the Island of Ireland Peace Park, where the contribution of the Irish in the war is remembered
