Description
Ypres, or Ypres, as the French-speaking Belgians call the city, is with 35,000 inhabitants the sixth largest city in the province of West Flanders and is located in the West Flemish Heuvelland. The highest hills in the sloping area are the Kemmelberg (156m), the Zwarteberg (152m) and the Katsberg (150m). This was followed by the Baneberg, Vidaigneberg, Scherpenberg and the Rodelberg. Although all hills differ in height, they all have in common that they are witness hills. They show what the landscape used to look like.
You can start at museum De Pottekarie. From this point you cycle through Domein De Warande. The park has many open spaces and varied vegetation, so you will see many walkers. A castle stands in the middle of a 16-hectare park. This building is now used as the central town hall. Those interested in history can indulge themselves at In Flanders Fields, a knowledge center about events during the First World War. Here you will see what influence the war has had and still has on our current society. The museum thereby conveys a timeless message of peace.
