Cycling route: 146538
Provided by: route.nl
Your route starts at Vriezenhuis Estate. This ride through the semi-open bocage landscape of the Achterhoek takes you through the Winterswijk National Landscape, a picturesquely beautiful region. At junction 22 you cycle past an open quarry. Two of the three quarries are managed as nature reserves. Groundwater is pumped out of the eastern and oldest quarry, where all kinds of special animals and plants have settled. The two water mills of the Oliemolle in Winterswijk are located on the water of the old Berkel. They belonged to the estates of the Lordship of Borculo and came into the possession of the Van Bronckhorst family towards the end of the 14th century. One of the mills now houses a bistro and the wheel still turns regularly.
