The picturesque landscape of Winterswijk

Your route starts at Landgoed Vriezenhuis. This ride through the semi-open coulisse landscape of the Achterhoek takes you through the Winterswijk National Landscape, a picturesquely beautiful region. At junction 22 you cycle past an open quarry. Two of the three quarries are managed as a nature reserve. The groundwater is pumped out of the eastern and oldest quarry, where all kinds of special animals and plants have settled. The two watermills of the Oliemolle in Winterswijk are located on the water of the old Berkel. They belonged to the goods of the Lordship of Borculo and came into the possession of the Van Bronckhorst family towards the end of the 14th century. A bistro is now located in one of the mills and the wheel still turns regularly.
