Gerhagen nature reserve
The first part of this bike tour takes you from Paal to the Gerhagen nature reserve. You cycle past fields and meadows that lie on the edge of the Gerhagenloop. This stream cuts through the entire nature reserve. The vegetation here consists mainly of conifers such as the Scots pine. Gerhagen also consists of fens and drifting sands. From here you cycle on to Vorst and Meerhout. In the village of Meerhout you will find numerous historical sights such as the Meerhoutse Watermolen, the market square and the old town hall. Then you head to Olmen and from there you cycle a bit along the edge of the Dessel-Kwaadmechelen Canal.
Bicycle and food café Paalse Plas
At the end of the route you will arrive at Fiets- en Eetcafé Paalse Plas on the edge of Paal. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee, lunch or something else tasty. Sit down and relax from your ride.
Gerhagen Forest Museum
At the foot of the Zandberg in the Gerhagen nature reserve lies the Bosmuseum Gerhagen. Step inside if you want to learn more about the nature in the area and in particular the animals that live in this area. Among other things, you will find a permanent exhibition about the local bird population. Please note: the museum is closed in January and December.
