Twente Taste cycle route - Six castles route Diepenheim

The Six Castles Cycling Route of Diepenheim is one of the most popular cycling routes in Twente and if you cycle it yourself you will soon notice why. This is sure to become one of your favorite routes! The Six Castles Cycling Route Diepenheim is a signposted cycling route of almost 30 kilometers around Diepenheim and connects the estates of Huis te Diepenheim, Nijenhuis, Warmelo, Wegdam, Weldam and Westerflier. Huis te Diepenheim Castle is the oldest castle in the region. The house was built in 1648 by Berent Bentinck. The 180 ha estate is freely accessible to walkers. Note the beautiful castle gate; the coat of arms of the Bentinck and Ittersum family and the year 1685 are incorporated here. Nijenhuis Castle is first mentioned in 1457 and has been owned by the Schimmelpenninck family since 1799. The buildings are private property, but the estate of almost 200 hectares is open. So it's worth getting off for a walk; garden and park were laid out in 1888 to the design of Hugo Poortman. Westerflier Castle is part of the Landgoed Nijenhuis and consists of a rectangular country house from 1729 without towers, only one building house and a simple landscape park. Landgoed Weldam is one of the larger estates in the eastern Netherlands. The castle and the (accessible) gardens are the centerpiece and you will also find forests, fields, meadows, streams, characteristic avenues, monumental houses and farms with black and yellow shutters. The 18th century Havezate Wegdam also belongs to the possessions of the Weldam. Each estate tells its own stories. Huize Warmelo - from 1339 - has a royal edge: Prince Bernhard's mother, Princess Armgard, lived here until her death in 1971. The castle is surrounded by a 7-hectare park, where a marked walking route introduces you to four centuries of garden architecture . So get off again!
