Tour between Woudenberg and Leusden

This ride takes you through the fields and along the water between Woudenberg and Leusden. Via Amersfoort you cycle back through the eastern forests of the Leusderheide. Between Woudenberg and Leusden you cycle along the Valleikanaal, named after the Gelderse valley. The canal was dug in the period 1935-1941 as part of the work provision scheme. It was intended to strengthen the Grebbelinie and improve the drainage of the Gelderse valley. You cycle in the picturesque Amersfoort over the city ring. Then you alternate the urban environment with forest and heath in the green areas east of the Leusderheide. The Den Treek estate was already mentioned in a charter in 1334. It used to be a farm and was converted into a country estate in 1807. In 1903 the house was expanded with a tower and a low wing. It was a hotel for 50 years, but after a thorough restoration in 2001 it is now privately inhabited again.
