Castles and estates: tour of Amerongen and Maarsbergen

Your route starts at Hotel Landgoed Zonheuvel. In addition to the forests of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, you also cycle along the water of the Lower Rhine and through places such as Woudenberg, Scherpenzeel and Amerongen. The Amerongse forest exudes the atmosphere of old estates. At Amerongen you cycle past a sheepfold. Amerongen Castle was built in 1286 in a strategic location on the Lower Rhine. The castle is open to the public. Be sure to take a look inside, because the interior has remained unchanged since 1940. The double access bridge is also special. You continue cycling along the fens of the Leersumse Veld, where you will see many dragonflies. The heath is grazed by a herd of Piedmontese cows. On the Anderstein Estate you will find the stately Villa Anderstein, built in the English landscape style.
