The Linge Route

Cycling along the water
The Linge Route follows both banks of the Linge between Geldermalsen and Gorinchem. Here the Rivierenland is at its most beautiful. The cycle route starts at the Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt Estate in Beesd. From the estate you cycle over the famous Appeldijk to Geldermalsen and then cycle to Gorinchem via the south side of the Linge. From Gorinchem you cycle back to Beesd via the north side. During this beautiful route you will not only cycle along the water. You will take a cycling trip through a beautiful area with reed fields and many fruit trees. The Linge Route winds through this area and along the way you pass 'glass city' Leerdam and the characteristic village of Asperen.

Straight through small villages
From Asperen you continue the Lingeroute to the village of Acquoy, located in an old bend of the river. A striking feature of this village is the church with a leaning tower. The cycle route along the Linge continues over the dike along the river, through quiet villages and lush orchards. A beautiful environment for a wonderful bike ride.

Kunstfort Asperen
In Asperen you can visit Kunstfort Asperen. This is very worthwhile. This fort, together with other forts, is part of the New Dutch Waterline. The fort was built between 1845 and 1847 and served as protection against enemy attacks. You will find a moat around the fort to make the fort more difficult for opponents to pass through.
