A wonderful cycling landscape awaits you around the Frisian Akkrum. Here you drive through vast grasslands, along waterways and lakes. You will also pass through De Alde Feanen National Park.

Old Fens
The Alde Feanen is a unique nature reserve. In this low peat swamp of almost 4,000 hectares you can look out over lakes, ditches, reedlands and shrubs. You will find all stages of a well-developed swamp: from vast, open water to sheltered forests. The fish-rich waters attract many water and marsh birds. With a bit of luck you will see the rare purple heron or marsh harrier flying over. It is wonderfully quiet here. Probably because of all that natural beauty.

Frisian villages
In the middle of the Alde Feanen you pass through the picturesque village of Earnewâld (Eernewoude in Dutch). It is not the only beautiful place on your route. You also pass through characteristic villages such as Grouw, De Veenhoop and Nes. In the countryside you can enjoy endless views, tranquility and sights such as regional farms. The route ends in Akkrum at Eetcafé Kromme Knilles. An authentic village café where you can enjoy a coffee and delicious meal on the terrace.
