Combine the best of both worlds: the city atmosphere with the romance of the beach! In the past, the fishing village of Katwijk aan Zee and the more agricultural Katwijk aan den Rijn were different places. Today they form the municipality of Katwijk, together with Rijnsburg, Katwijk-Noord and Valkenburg. However, the close-knit fishing community is still clearly palpable in Katwijk aan Zee. You can still hear an old and original dialect. While cycling through Katwijk, it might be fun to take a look at one of the free graffiti sites that the municipality maintains. The municipality has a rich graffiti culture and several artists have united in a collective, which took the initiative to make the free graffiti places available. Very occasionally even the lighthouse is wrapped in plastic to be sprayed. Katwijk has a wealth of monuments and attractions, including churches, the Spinoza House, numerous museums and of course the dune landscape. The annual New Year's Dive also takes place in Katwijk.
